Solu Khumbu District Nepal
The Australian Himalayan Foundation is establishing a database of Australian Teachers who are willing to volunteer for its major Teacher Training and Quality Education initiative in the Mount Everest region of Nepal over the next three years- 2010-2012. Working in conjuction with our local NGO REED, you will be assisting local qualified teacher trainers.
Costs within Nepal will be covered by AHF but travel to Nepal and medical insurance is the responsibility of each volunteer.
The AHF is looking to support 300 Primary (Class 1 to 5) schools. Week long Refresher workshops and ten day trainings will eventually cater for a total of c.1000 Primary teachers. These Teachers already hold positions within schools. The Training is child-centred.There is an emphasis on Grade teaching and Multi Grade teaching even though most primary teachers teach only one subject. All Primary teachers are invited to attend.
The Training uses the Nepali Curriculum content working towards improved “Quality Education” the aim of the Ministry of Education Nepal 2006-2011. This programme has formal accreditation from the Nepalese Government
Trainings are held late November through to Mid January and April/ May each year. The training venue is at local schools and occurs in the Nepal School Holidays. Facilities in the Sotang region (well off the tourist trail) are basic and volunteers should be prepared for these conditions.
