The Foundation is pleased to announce that it has recently entered into an agreement with the Australian Embassy in Kathmandu to support its Development Aid Program (DAP). From 2010, the AHF will be ensuring that the Australian Government's DAP funds go further and help to strengthen the relationship between the Foundation and the Nepalese people. The Foundation has agreed to contribute $10,000 in 2010 to two projects:
Batase Drinking Water Project
Together with the Australian Embassy, the AHF is funding the cost of solar panels, the construction of a water tank, and the development of a distribution system targeting 75 poor and needy households in Maidi, Dhading, which is located on the outskirts of the Kathmandu Valley
Mobile Cancer Clinic Project
The AHF is partnering the Embassy in funding a new initiative in preventative healthcare in the Kathmandu Valley.
Cervical cancer is the number one cause of cancer death for women between the ages of 20 and 50 in Nepal, and far exceeds even breast cancer. To assist we are working with the Embassy to fund a mobile cancer clinic. Funds will be allocated towards examination tables, medicines and the necessary equipment and logistics to run cervical and breast cancer screening camps. Enquiries have also been made of ways to extend support to remote communities beyond the Kathmandu Valley.
