Improving Educational Outcomes in Bhutan Supporting Girls' Education
The AHF is pleased to announce the launch of a new program in Bhutan. From mid-2010, we will be working to support educational development programs in the remotest corners of Bhutan by providing funding for young girls to enable them to attend school.
Working with Michelle Hogan and Carolyn Hamer-Smith, two Australians (and founders of My Secret Bhutan) dedicated to supporting a number of key Bhutanese development programs, we will be partnering local NGO RENEW. RENEW was founded in 2004 by the youngest of the four Bhutanese Queens, Ashi Sangay Choden Wangchuck, and it is the only local NGO dedicated specifically to the development of women and girls in Bhutan.
In partnership with RENEW, we will be providing essential assistance to c.100 young girls (at A$100 per annum) from remote areas of Bhutan. Under this funding, young girls are provided with basic educational support such as payment of annual school fees, school uniforms, provision of meals and boarding facilities for those children in extremely remote areas. In some isolated cases we will also fund a small number of male students in situations of extreme need.
Donations for girls' education can be made online or by sending a cheque to the AHF Office.
