Druk Path Trek with Cultural Tour 2019

Date
April 14, 2019 - April 27, 2019

Location
Bhutan

As recently as 1961, all entry into the Kingdom of Bhutan was on horseback. Over the past 50 years, the country has sustained incredible change, but the landscape  remains as inscrutable and challenging as ever. An exotic land of high mountains and lush valleys, snow-clad peaks with clear running springs, a pristine ecology and an incredible wealth of wildlife.

In April 2019, AHF Chairman Simon Balderstone leads a group through one of the most popular treks in Bhutan, the Druk Path Trek. Passing through a remote and gorgeous landscape of blue pine forest, high ridges and pristine lakes, this trek also offers the chance to see Bhutan’s ancient dzongs (temples) and villages. The trail takes you through altitudes ranging from 2400-4200m, visiting crystal clear Jimilangtsho Lake and seeing the stunning vista of Mt Gankhar Puensum, the highest unscaled mountain in the world.

You will also find time to experience the simple pleasures of this country nestled deep in the Himalaya between India and Tibet. Bhutan is essentially a rural country with 90 percent of people engaged in agriculture or raising livestock, and visitors come away with a sense of kinship with the people and love of their land.

Simon Balderstone will introduce you to the wonders of the 17th century Dzongs, the beauty of the traditional Bhutanese architecture, and the compassion of the people. You will have a chance to see the work of the NGOs supported by the Australian Himalayan Foundation, and feel the sense of satisfaction that arises through contributing to the lives and welfare of these generous and spiritual people. You may also have the chance to meet with Her Majesty Queen Mother of Bhutan (the patron of AHF’s Girls Education project).

TRIP HOST –  AHF Chairman Simon Balderstone

Simon is a journalist, author and member of the First Australian Everest Expedition in 1984. Simon’s passion for making a difference drives everything he does, and he will share this with you as you take this trip of a lifetime through beautiful Bhutan.
